Learn to Sail – Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. This entry program allows students to learn the basics of sailing in a safe, instructional environment. Class size is limited to allow for a maximum 1:5 instructor/student ratio. Students are accompanied by a BRSS (US Sailing) certified instructor throughout the lesson while they learn water safety, points of sail, rights of way, and other information needed on how to pilot a sailboat and begin to advance through the full BRSS sailing program. This program utilizes boats in the Club’s fleet primarily the Hobie Cat Waves for this group instruction. Supervised lunch service is available separately from the BRYC snack bar following the daily lesson.

Opti Beginner – Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. This class allows students to experience single-handed sailing while being closely monitored and instructed by BRSS (US Sailing) certified instructors. Class size is limited to allow for student-focused instruction. Sailors get an introduction to Optis, rigging, parts of the boat, points of sail, and navigational right of way. Sailors will continue building their knowledge of basic sailing skills while beginning to learn the basics of racing and the skills they need to move on to the advanced Opti class. Club boats are available to rent or their own boat can be used and stored at the Club. Supervised lunch service is available separately from the BRYC snack bar following the daily lesson.

Opti Advanced/Racing – Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. This class allows experienced Opti sailors to build on previous experience and grow as sailors and racers. This class is instructed by BRSS certified (US Sailing) instructors and focuses on racing but is also appropriate for advanced Opti sailors considering racing. Class sizes is limited to allow for student-focused instruction and prepares students to compete in regattas over the course of the summer on the Cape and Islands. Students are encouraged to attend as many classes as possible throughout the summer. Classes may not be held on regatta days. Sailors typically own their own Opti for this class, but rental of a Club boat is possible. Supervised lunch service is available separately from the BRYC snack bar following the daily lesson.

420 Beginner – Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. In this class, students learn the basics of this performance, double-handed dinghy. 420 is the next class of boats for youth sailing once they have moved out of the Opti class due to size, age, or sailing skill. Students will gain experience in both skippering and crewing and continue to develop racing skills. Classes may not be held on regatta days. This class is instructed by BRSS (US Sailing) certified instructors and class sizes is limited to allow for student-focused instruction. Sailors use the Club’s fleet of 420s. 420 Advanced/Racing – Monday through Friday, 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM. In this class, students expand their skills sailing this performance, double-handed dinghy. Sailors further their experience in both skippering and crewing and continue to develop racing skills. This class is instructed by BRSS (US Sailing) certified instructors and focuses on racing but is also appropriate for advanced 420 sailors considering racing. Sailors use the Club’s fleet of 420s. Class sizes is limited to allow for student-focused instruction and prepares students to compete in regattas over the course of the summer on the Cape and Islands. Extend the day with Tennis lessons at the South Yarmouth Tennis Club (SYTC) –Our neighbors and friends at the nearby SYTC have coordinated their junior tennis instruction to align with our sailing program. Group tennis lessons for juniors are available daily Monday-Friday at the SYTC from 1-2pm with separate registration through the SYTC. Sailors participating in tennis will be escorted (walking or biking) to the SYTC by a sailing school coach after a supervised lunch arriving in time for the 1pm lesson. Parents can therefore drop off children at the BRYC sailing school for the 8:30am start and collect them from the tennis courts at the SYTC at 2pm. Adaptive Sailing – We are proud to support Sail Cape Cod, a non-profit Community Sailing Program whose mission is to improve the quality of life in the community through sailing for people of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and physical and developmental abilities. Sail Cape Cod offers a range of sailing classes providing ‘Access to All without Limitations’ regardless of the sailor’s physical, cognitive, or economic ability and to ensure that every individual is able to share in the idyllic Cape Cod activity of sailing, whether they are living on the Cape or visiting from around the world.
