The Bass River Yacht Club (BRYC) is hosting the 2023 NEBCBA Leo Telesmanick Championship Regatta the weekend of August 11-13 (Racing on August 12 & 13). Bass River is one of the founding members of NEBCBA and we are pleased to host the “Leo” this summer. Our plan is to follow the schedule for the past few years when we sponsored the Leo at Bass River.

Bass River is a tidal river the flows into Nantucket Sound, where we will be running the races. We will schedule activities for the weekend to accommodate the tides and currents in and out of the River. The Club is approximately one mile from the mouth of the River that empties into Nantucket Sound. The Leo will be sailed on Nantucket Sound, west of the marked channel leaving Bass River.

On Friday August 11, Early Check-in will start at 1400 HRS, with a welcome party at the Club beginning at 1800 HRS. Either Friday afternoon or early Saturday morning, sailors can launch their boats at Uncle Freeman’s Landing across the River in West Dennis, or by hand dolly at the Club beach. We will arrange moorings and/or dock assignments at locations between the Club and the mouth of the River, and provide volunteer Club launch service.

Additional Check-in will be provided the morning of August 12 beginning at 0800 HRS. We will have the first warning signal on the race course at 1000 HRS. The final race on Saturday will begin on or before 1600. Lunch on Saturday will be held during a break of racing by briefly returning to shore at Betsy Kamborian’s beach near the mouth of the River. A cocktail party and dinner will be served at the Club on Saturday night, with the NEBCBA Annual Meeting held just before dinner.

The remaining races will be held on August 13, with a starting signal on the race course at 0945 HRS. The final race on Saturday will begin on or before 1330 HRS. Following racing, we will enjoy lunch and the Awards Ceremony at the Club.

Please see the Club website for the Notice of Race and for registration. Please also stay tuned for more information to RSVP for the Saturday evening cocktail party and dinner. We look forward to your participation in this year’s Leo!
